An Accra High Court has ordered that the criminal trial of Nana Appiah Mensah, the former CEO of the defunct gold dealership Menzgold, be conducted virtually. The decision follows a medical note submitted by his doctor, advising Mr. Mensah to avoid “maximal physical exertion” due to health concerns.
The court communicated the move to his legal team today, enabling the proceedings to continue via electronic hearings.
NAM1 faces multiple charges, including defrauding by false pretence, operating a gold trading business without a license, and money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently on bail.
This trial is part of the ongoing prosecution related to the collapse of Menzgold, which allegedly defrauded thousands of customers. The High Court had previously instructed him to begin his defence as the case progresses.
