Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has unveiled a 23-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico, combining experienced internationals, promising European-based talents, and standout performers from the domestic league. The squad reflects the technical team’s strategy to assess squad depth, reward current form, and continue building a competitive unit, while also giving valuable exposure to several U-23 players who are expected to feature in Ghana’s upcoming Olympic qualifying campaign.

Among the notable inclusions is Majeed Ashimeru, returning after a lengthy injury layoff. The midfielder missed significant playing time due to a muscle problem that limited his involvement at both club and national level. His return adds composure, creativity, and experience to Ghana’s midfield.

Another key returnee is Felix Afena-Gyan, back in the national setup for the first time since featuring against Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup in London last May. The forward will look to use the friendly as a platform to reignite his international career and showcase his attacking prowess.

The squad also features exciting young talents making waves abroad, including Abdul Aziz Issah of FC Barcelona Atlètic, Ebenezer Annan of AS Saint-Étienne, Ibrahim Osman of Birmingham City, and Paul Reverson of AFC Ajax. These players represent the next generation of Ghanaian football talent.

On the domestic front, Salim Adams leads the local contingent after an impressive season with Medeama SC. He is joined by Ebenezer Abban of Heart of Lions, Ebenezer Adade of Dreams FC, and Razak Simpson, captain of Nations FC, whose leadership and consistency have earned him well-deserved recognition.

With Ghana set to depart for Mexico on Friday, May 22, the friendly promises to be a key test for Queiroz and his players. Beyond being a match, it represents an important step in shaping the future of the Black Stars, blending established quality with youthful ambition as Ghana looks ahead with renewed purpose.
