CAF Orders Coach Kwesi Appiah to Step Down from One of His Dual Roles

Accra, Ghana – In a surprise move, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has directed Coach Kwesi Appiah to relinquish one of his two current positions, effective immediately.

Appiah, a renowned Ghanaian football tactician, holds dual roles as:

1. Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)

2. Head Coach of the Sudan National Team

CAF’s directive cites potential conflicts of interest and the need for focused leadership in both positions.

Coach Appiah, a former Black Stars coach, was appointed Sudan’s national team head coach in May 2023. His concurrent role as GFA Executive Council Member raised eyebrows, sparking concerns about divided loyalties.

CAF’s Stance

“CAF requires individuals holding key positions to maintain impartiality and devote full attention to their responsibilities,” a CAF spokesperson stated. “Coach Appiah’s dual roles compromise this principle, necessitating his immediate resignation from one position.
