Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Get screened to ascertain the conditions of your breasts to avoid unforeseen circumstances – Consultant Surgeon, KATH
Dr. Aitipilla Francis, Consultant Surgeon and Head of the Breast Care Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has urged women to undertake regular breast examinations and screenings. This proactive approach aids in early detection and treatment, thereby mitigating the risks associated with breast cancer.
Addressing Newsmen after a Free Breast Screening and Health Walk organized in Sampa, the Jaman North District Capital, by the Sampa Government Hospital in collaboration with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Aitipilla Francis remarked that the program aligns with the annual breast cancer awareness campaign held every October. This necessitated the collaborative effort of KATH and Sampa Government Hospital to conduct the screenings aimed at identifying and treating breast cancer.
The Administrator at the Surgery Directorate of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Mr.Edward Osei Prempeh, and a nurse, Madam Obeng Agyemang Faustina, respectfully expressed their gratitude to the people of Sampa, particularly the women, for their willingness to participate in the screening program. They revealed a successful screening of over 500 women for breast cancer, with 45 cases detected.
They earnestly appealed to traditional authorities, political leaders, and other stakeholders in Sampa to establish a fund to support underprivileged women who may be afflicted by the ailment and require further treatment, emphasizing that early detection of breast cancer saves lives.
