Another blasting activity carried out by Nag Fairmount Constructions Limited, the company behind the Kasoa-Winneba road expansion project, has caused significant damage to homes in Dabenyin, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
This recent incident left several residential buildings damaged as flying rock particles from the blasting site struck nearby structures. Among the affected properties were a fully completed 16-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment still under construction. Fortunately, unlike the tragic Buduburam blasting that resulted in fatalities, no lives were lost in this occurrence on Monday.
Affected Residents Voice Concerns
Residents whose homes suffered damages are raising concerns about the perceived lack of responsibility from authorities and the construction company. Some have already undertaken repairs but are calling on Nag Fairmount Constructions to provide comprehensive solutions.
Kwadwo Amoah, a resident whose home sustained roof damage, shared his frustrations:
“We have leaks in the roofs of all six rooms, and the house on the other side with five rooms has damaged roofing sheets. I took a GHS25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to patch it. They should replace the entire roofing so we can have peace.”
Similarly, Albert Appiah, another affected resident, revealed that he had informed the company of his damages but had yet to receive any response. Issah Rahman recounted how a stone penetrated his roof, landing in his bedroom—a stark reminder of the blasting’s impact.
NADMO’s Response and Promises
The Gomoa East Metropolitan Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has completed an assessment of the damages. Robert Nana Hackman, the NADMO director, assured Channel One News that compensations for affected property owners would soon be addressed.
He added that medical expenses for victims of the Buduburam blasting, which occurred on October 14, have already been covered, although compensation for property destruction remains outstanding.
As residents await concrete actions, they urge authorities and the construction company to fulfill their promises and prevent similar incidents in the future.
