The Constituency 1st Vice Chairman for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who doubles as the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron and also the Patron of NPP Crusaders, Hon. John Kwame Doudu, known in the political circles as Sir John, has advised drivers to be measured in their alcohol intake during the Easter festivities.

He noted that drunk-driving is a major cause of road crashes mostly recorded during Easter Festivals, when drivers in the mood of ecstasy get themselves drunk thereby endangering precious lives on our roads.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Sir John advised drivers in the country to minimize speeding, avoid reckless overtaking and most importantly take a break and rest when tired.

He added that the loss of even one life through road accident is a number too great, considering the adverse impact on society, the pain and agony to families and the loss to the national economy.

Sir John stated again that road users must change their behavior and adopt safe road use practices, saying “We cannot continue to watch on as loved ones perish on our roads through no fault of theirs.”

Sir John also urged passengers to show concern about the safety of their trips, wear seat belts when available and speak up when drivers exhibit risky and unsafe behaviors on the road.

He further explained that most road crash could been prevented through carefulness on the road by all road users..

He observed that ‘another factor that influenced road crashes during Easter included the hastiness of drivers to embark on more trips to generate extra money, leading to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking’.

He, therefore appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, and the Eastern Regional Police Commander to continue to deploy more police personnel on various roads to ensure full compliance with road traffic regulations at Kwahu and its environs during this Easter festival.
