Dr. Justice Srem Sai, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, has announced that the Office of the Attorney-General will assume control of cases currently being prosecuted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). This move follows a High Court ruling in response to a legal challenge from accused person Peter Archiblod Hyde, who questioned the OSP’s authority to prosecute without prior authorization from the Attorney-General.

Hyde’s legal team argued that both the Constitution and the OSP Act require such authorization before any prosecution can proceed. The High Court, after reviewing the case, found that the OSP had failed to demonstrate it had received the necessary approval, prompting the court to direct that all related cases be handled by the Attorney-General until the issue is resolved.

Dr. Srem Sai affirmed that the Attorney-General’s Office would comply with the court’s decision, underscoring the office’s commitment to the rule of law and judicial respect. He stated that steps would soon be taken to implement the court’s directive and facilitate the transition of the affected cases to the Attorney-General’s office.
