Introduction: The Importance of Progress Regardless of Differences.

The phrase “regardless of differences” is a powerful one, representing the idea that progress and development should not be hindered by differences between individuals or groups. Unfortunately, this ideal has not always been embraced, and it often takes a crisis or threat of losing something valuable to realize its significance.

For instance, in the case of the Winners Chapel University project in Senya Beraku, some may argue about the land size, memorandum of understanding (MOU), or transparency, which can lead to objections or obstruction. However, focusing on such factors to cause differences risks losing sight of the bigger picture – that progress is essential for economic development and the well-being of a community as a whole.

Obstructing Development Projects: A Short-Sighted Solution

Historically, obstructing development projects was seen as a way to protect a community’s interests or rights. However, such actions often fail to consider the long-term consequences of blocking progress.

Our ancestors who obstructed certain developmental projects such as the construction of a harbor during colonial times may have had good and justifiable reasons for doing so. However, they may not have thought through the fact that justification for action is not justification for obstruction, and this can be detrimental in the long run.

When someone is about to invest billions of dollars in a development project, such as this university project, it is not a favor to them. It is of mutual benefit, with us having the opportunity, among others, to see people rushing into our community with other developments that can build the economy of our land. Obstructing this opportunity can be shortsighted and lead to long-term economic harm to the community.

Proper Channels for Redress

It is essential to recognize that concerns about development projects should not be ignored. There are proper channels for redress, and these should be utilized instead of taking the law into one’s hands.

For instance, the youth can engage with organizations like Enyi Pramaso to help them through the proper channels for redress. By doing so, they can ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed without obstructing progress.

Transparency and Sensitivity

Transparency and sensitivity are crucial considerations when it comes to community development projects. However, it is essential to understand that transparency should never be confused with publicity.

While we may desire to see sensitive documents pertaining to our community, we must recognize that social media is not the appropriate platform for sharing such information. Traditional authorities are not required to share every transaction with the general public, and inappropriate practice can undermine their authority and expose the community to internal and external opponents.

Avoid Being Manipulated by Selfish Interests or Opposition

It is important to be guided and avoid being swayed by selfish interests or opposition. People often play on our ignorance to pull us into their selfish battles, making us become their puppets.

Therefore, it is essential to avoid following any opposition to a development project blindly. Instead, we should strive to be informed and make decisions based on careful consideration of the facts and the long-term benefits for the community.

Conclusion: Progress is Essential

In conclusion, the importance of progress regardless of differences cannot be overstated. Obstructing development projects can be shortsighted and lead to long-term harm to any community. Therefore, it is essential to utilize proper channels for redress and be guided by the long-term benefits of progress. By doing so, we can build a more prosperous and equitable future for all members of the Senya Beraku community.
