A TEAM FROM POSTGRADUATE COLLEGE OF PHARMACISTS MEETS KBTH DIRECTOR.

A delegation from the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) has paid a courtesy call on the Director of Pharmacy at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to discuss a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

The delegation was led by Dr Mrs Martha Gyansa-Lutterodt, Chapter Chair (Ghana) and Deputy Chair of the Joint Faculty Board (WAPCP), along with Mrs Irene Agyemang, WAPCP Academic Coordinator for the Ghana Chapter and Deputy Chair at the Faculty of Public Health.

The visit was to formally engage with the newly appointed Director of Pharmacy, Dr Charles Ofei-Palm, and to seek his feedback on the implementation of the West African Postgraduate Training Programme at KBTH.

The discussions centred on the extent of collaboration between Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the WAPCP, the role of training institutions, and the preceptorship arrangements responsible for tracking and supervising the programme.

Mrs Irene Agyemang gave an overview of the training programme, which spans five years and is structured into three levels: a one-year Primary level; Part One, which confers membership; and Part Two, which leads to fellowship. She explained that the programme is open to pharmacists across the West African subregion.

Dr Ofei-Palm emphasised the need for clarity regarding the modalities of the Postgraduate Training Programme. He stated that a clearer framework would enable his office to streamline and formalise arrangements, making it easier for prospective applicants from KBTH to access the programme.

He further noted that successful completion of the programme could be recognised as part of the fulfilment of requirements for career progression within the institution.

Dr Ofei-Palm expressed appreciation to the WAPCP delegation for their visit and conveyed his desire for a deeper understanding and strengthened collaboration between the College and the hospital.

In response, Dr Mrs Martha Gyansa-Lutterodt assured the Director that the College would provide additional clarifications and keep the institution updated on personnel who have completed the programme, as well as those currently enrolled at various levels. She expressed hope that the Director would not only continue to support postgraduate training but also explore the full benefits of peer-institution research and other collaborative initiatives available through WAPCP member countries.
