Trainee Nurses of the Bolgatanga Midwifery Training School have today protested against the management of the school for disconnecting electrical power to sockets in their dormitories, thereby denying them the use of electricity for charging their phones and laptops, ironing their clothes among others.

They are demanding that electrical power be restored to sockets in their hostels immediately.

The protesting students, who held placards demanding the sacking of the principal of the school, complained that beyond denying them adequate food and being autocratic, the school principal’s action of disconnecting the power supply to their sockets has led to the theft of their phones whenever they go elsewhere to charge them.

“Ministry of Health, we don’t want the Principal; change her for us,” one student said as he wailed in protest.

“We want our gari, our sugar and our sardine. We want everything. We don’t want it later. We want it now. We want our light back to today,” another said.

“…How will I pay school fees and then go and buy another phone. It’s not fair. This school, it’s not fair,” a student who had lost his phone lamented.

It took the intervention of police officers to restore order. The school authorities are yet to formally react to the complaints of the students.
