Three persons have reportedly died following a violent mob attack at the New Winneba Township in the Central Region.
According to the Winneba Divisional/Central Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at about 10:40 a.m., when an mob of about 300 people allegedly armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks, stormed the New Winneba Township.
The group, reportedly from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze, attacked persons within the area and allegedly caused extensive damage to properties, including stores and residences belonging to some natives.
Thé thé mob from the Gomoa town commuter claims the area(New Winneba ) belong to them.
The Police say about 15 injured persons, including a police officer, have been rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for medical attention.
In response to the situation, personnel from the Central Regional Police Command, Winneba Divisional Headquarters and Agona Swedru District Patrols have been deployed to restore calm and maintain security in the affected areas.
Meanwhile the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has also deployed additional personnel, including two armoured vehicles from the National Police Headquarters, to reinforce security operations.
