The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has issued a final warning to traders operating on pavements and unauthorised spaces at the Kasoa New Market to vacate before a planned decongestion exercise.
The exercise was announced during an engagement between the MUSEC, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Chairman of the Council, Hon. Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, and traders at the Kasoa New Market.
The engagement focused on traders who have extended their businesses onto pavements and portions of the main road, particularly along the Kasoa-Ofaakor road.
According to the MCE, the activities of traders and shop owners who have occupied unauthorised spaces are contributing significantly to traffic congestion, especially along the stretch from My Child to Colomba Junction.
Hon. Banini reminded traders that the spaces provided to them were meant to be used as stores and sheds, and not as extensions onto pavements or the roadway.
He said several notices had already been issued to traders to remove unauthorised structures and vacate spaces designated for pedestrians and motorists.
The latest engagement, he stressed, constitutes the final notice before the Assembly begins a major decongestion exercise.
Members of the MUSEC, including the Divisional Police Commander, the Physical Planning Officer and the Assembly Taskforce Commander, also cautioned traders to comply with the directive.
They warned that the upcoming decongestion exercise would be carried out in full force and urged traders occupying unapproved or unauthorised spaces to voluntarily vacate before the exercise begins.
The authorities said the move is intended to restore the proper use of pavements, improve pedestrian safety and ease persistent traffic congestion along the Kasoa-Ofaakor corridor.
