Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has described her working relationship with President John Dramani Mahama as positive, saying it has been built on trust, shared goals and a common commitment to serving Ghanaians.
Speaking on the KSM Show on Friday, August 7, 2026, the Vice President said the government’s priority was focused on nation-building and delivering on its promises rather than engaging in unnecessary disagreements among its leaders.
“We have a strategy. So what is there to fundamentally disagree about? To begin with, the issue is we are building the nation,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the enormous responsibilities and pressures that come with the presidency, noting that her role was to support President Mahama in achieving the government’s development agenda.
“He will see more than we would see. He’ll face more pressures than we would. So you try to defer as much as you can,” she stated.
She explained that her confidence in the President was based on their shared understanding of the government’s objectives and her trust in his leadership.
“You know that he’s not going to do anything away from the agreed objectives. You know him enough, you trust him enough, and he demonstrates that enough,” she added.
The Vice President said the administration was united by its manifesto commitments and the mandate given to it by the people of Ghana.
“What are we doing together? That’s a fundamental question. We are here because we have a manifesto. We did the campaign. The people of Ghana listened to us,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the cooperation between herself and President Mahama, describing their partnership as strong.
“So far, so good. And I’m very, very thankful that we have such a good working relationship,” she said.
