Three people have lost their lives while eleven others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a fatal road accident at Ajumako Kokoben in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The accident involving a Toyota Isuzu pickup truck with registration number GE 1361-25 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.
According to preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Toyota Voxy was allegedly attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed when the driver encountered poor visibility caused by a thick cloud of dust along the road.
Investigators believe the driver failed to notice the oncoming Toyota Isuzu pickup truck, resulting in a violent head-on collision.
The impact left both vehicles extensively damaged and trapped several occupants inside the wreckage.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service at Breman Essiam led by Ajumako District Fire Commander Kindsley Yeboad responded swiftly to a distress call and arrived at the accident scene to carry out rescue operations.
The rescue team used specialized equipment to extricate four victims who were trapped inside one of the vehicles.
Before the arrival of the emergency responders, some good Samaritans and passersby had already rescued seven other victims from the crash scene.
The injured victims, who sustained various degrees of injuries, were handed over to personnel from the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams before being transported to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment.
Sadly, three victims were pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Their bodies have since been deposited at a nearby morgue pending identification and further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
Authorities have meanwhile urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid dangerous overtaking, and reduce speed, especially on dusty roads where visibility is poor, to help prevent similar tragedies.
