Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra, demanding the immediate release of Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the party’s communications team and spokesperson for former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The supporters’ action follows reports that Aboagye was arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Kotoka International Airport by EOCO officials with support from personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service.

The NPP is demanding clarity from EOCO over the circumstances surrounding the arrest, insisting that the investigative body has not provided any official explanation for his detention.

The party has also raised concerns over claims that Aboagye has been denied access to his lawyers since his arrest, a claim that has not yet received a public response from EOCO or the Ghana Immigration Service.

The issue was first brought to public attention by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, who disclosed the arrest in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 12.

Kodua called for Aboagye’s immediate release and urged authorities to respect his constitutional rights.

The gathering of party supporters at EOCO’s office has increased pressure on the agency to explain the reason behind the arrest and provide updates on the matter.

Meanwhile, EOCO is yet to release an official statement addressing the arrest or the concerns raised by the NPP.
