Paying higher electricity tariffs for better service is preferable to paying less and facing electricity crisis – NDC Communication Officer

The Communications Officer for the Dormaa Central constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh, has articulated that paying higher electricity tariffs for improved electricity service is preferable to paying lower rates while experiencing electricity crises.
Reacting to the recent announcement by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) regarding an upward adjustment of electricity and water tariffs by 3.49% and 0.85%, respectively, Hon. Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh emphasized that Ghanaians have elected a president and must trust in the judgment of his governance. He asserted that the responsibility lies with the president and his executive team to implement measures that serve the best interests of the populace.
He noted that the actions taken by the Ministry of Energy are essential for addressing the challenges within the energy sector, underscoring that not all governance decisions will be welcomed by every citizen; however, leaders must make difficult choices to foster national progress.
Hon. Kyeremeh further compared the current administration under John Dramani Mahama to the previous government led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that the current economic conditions are more favorable for the general populace, despite not being perfect. He remarked that economic indicators have shown improvement compared to the NPP era. He concluded by acknowledging the increase in electricity tariffs, yet urged the public to maintain confidence in the government’s ability to provide quality governance that enhances their lives and livelihoods, emphasizing that it is more advantageous to pay higher electricity tariffs for reliable electricity services than to pay less and face electricity-related challenges.
