One person has been rescued and rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic after six individuals were swept away by raging floodwaters at Dokutsekope in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region following heavy rainfall.
The remaining five victims are still missing as emergency responders and residents continue search efforts.
The incident occurred after hours of torrential rainfall caused nearby streams and drainage channels to overflow, leaving several communities submerged and forcing many residents to flee their homes.
Eyewitnesses told Channel 247 news Yaw Boagyan that the six victims were attempting to cross a flooded section of the community when they were overwhelmed by the strong current.
One victim was successfully rescued by residents and volunteers and was immediately transported to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic for medical treatment.
Residents say the whereabouts of the other five victims remain unknown, raising fears that they may have been carried away by the fast-moving floodwaters.
Floodwaters have inundated homes, destroyed household property, and displaced dozens of families, many of whom have sought shelter in safer areas.
The flooding has also affected neighboring communities, including Gao Line and Kpormetey, where several houses remain submerged.
Residents in these communities have been trapped indoors, with rescue teams relying on canoes to evacuate vulnerable people, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Community members have appealed to the government, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency agencies to urgently deploy additional rescue personnel, boats, relief supplies, and temporary shelters to support affected families.
Authorities are expected to assess the full extent of the damage as search-and-rescue operations continue.
