Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has fired up Ghanaians ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pledging that the team will do everything possible to make the nation proud on football’s biggest stage.

Speaking at Ghana’s official send-off ceremony before the squad departed for Canada, Ayew highlighted the enormous responsibility of representing the country and called on fans to continue supporting the team throughout the tournament.

The 34-year-old striker assumes the captaincy at a pivotal moment in Ghanaian football history, with the Black Stars aiming to reach the knockout stages for the first time since their memorable 2010 quarter-final run. Addressing fans and dignitaries, Ayew expressed confidence in the squad’s determination despite the tough challenge ahead.

“We have three massive games ahead and we want to make you proud, to make Ghana proud. It won’t be easy, but with your prayers and support, we hope to be successful,” he said.

“We thank everyone for your support—keep praying for us, because we are here to make history.”

Ayew’s words reflect the squad’s belief and ambition as they prepare to face England, Croatia, and Panama in a demanding Group D.

The veteran forward arrives in excellent form after a stellar qualification campaign, contributing 14 goals and assists—seven goals and seven assists—as Ghana topped Group I to secure their World Cup spot.

Off the pitch, Ayew has shown his leadership in unique ways, joking that he would reserve space on his back for a tattoo of the World Cup trophy should Ghana achieve the unthinkable and lift football’s most coveted prize.

The tournament will also see Ayew become Ghana’s oldest player to feature at a World Cup, surpassing the record previously held by Denis Odoi.

Under the guidance of experienced coach Carlos Queiroz, the Black Stars have embraced the responsibility of wearing the national jersey and aim to inspire the next generation of Ghanaian footballers.

With expectations high, Jordan Ayew and his teammates are determined to make Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance one to remember.
