The Municipal Chief Executive for the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Seth Serwornu Banini, has urged the youth to stay away from substance abuse due to its long-term health and social consequences.
He mentioned this to the media during the Eid celebrations, he stressed the dangers associated with the abuse of illicit drugs and called on young people to make responsible choices.
According to Hon Seth, the Assembly, in collaboration with the police and traditional authorities, are intensifying public education on the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The Hon Banini used the opportunity to appeal to residents living along the banks of the Okrudu River to relocate to safer areas to prevent possible flood disasters.
Hon. Banini explained that with some parts of the country already experiencing flooding, there is a need for the Assembly to take proactive steps to avoid similar situations in the municipality.
He noted that the Assembly has begun demolishing structures built on waterways, while dredging of rivers is also ongoing to ensure the free flow of water during heavy rainfall.
