Residents of Elmina have welcomed the court ruling restoring the licence of GN Savings and Loans, formerly linked to GN Bank, and are calling for the speedy reopening of the bank to support economic recovery.
The residents believe the bank’s return will revive businesses, improve access to financial services, and restore confidence among customers affected by the banking sector clean-up.
Fisherman Mr. John Quayson, popularly known as “Maanoma,” led residents dressed in white to express gratitude to the government for supporting the restoration process.

Many residents pledged their support to Papa Kwesi Nduom and said they are ready to resume banking with the institution once operations restart. They noted that the bank previously helped families, supported small businesses, and created employment opportunities for the youth.
Community members also expressed hope that reopening the Elmina branch will benefit fishermen, traders, market women, and workers who depended on the bank’s services.
Residents praised Dr. Nduom’s decision to make Elmina the first branch to reopen and urged management to quickly restore operations and rebuild public trust following the Court of Appeal ruling.
