The Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, has announced that overall cost pressures in the construction sector are easing, though certain inputs, particularly materials and equipment, are still driving prices upward. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 29, he highlighted that this marks eleven consecutive months of decline in construction costs.
However, Dr. Iddrisu noted that prices rose by 0.8 percent between February and March 2026, indicating that short-term cost pressures persist. He further revealed that building inflation slowed to 2.2 percent year-on-year in March 2026, signaling a potential opportunity for more informed decision-making among government, businesses, and households.
Dr. Iddrisu expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of market players and data providers and commended the dedicated staff of the Ghana Statistical Service for their ongoing efforts in ensuring the production of timely, accurate, and reliable statistics.
