The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that 21 individuals have been arrested in connection with the deadly attack on a military escort convoy in Binduri, Upper East Region. Security operations are intensifying as authorities work to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The attack took place on Monday, April 27, 2026, when a convoy carrying around 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under heavy gunfire from unidentified assailants. Three civilians were killed, and one other was injured.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, the military confirmed that the convoy was ambushed by unknown attackers. Despite the assault, the soldiers managed to repel the attackers, killing seven of them. During the pursuit, security forces recovered a G3 automatic rifle, two filled magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition from an escapee who sought refuge in a mosque.
Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, spoke on Channel One News, confirming that the number of suspects in custody has now risen to 21. She added that the suspects are cooperating with the investigation and that security operations are ongoing to track down other individuals involved.
Captain Arhin issued a strong warning to the public, urging them not to attack military personnel on duty. “Please do not attack the military, especially when they are on official duty,” she cautioned. “When you do that, needless lives will be lost because we must protect ourselves and the assignments given to us.”
The GAF also extended condolences to the families of the deceased civilians and wished a swift recovery to the injured. The military assured the public that it is working with other security agencies to restore stability to the area and prevent further violence.
