The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reassured the public that the government will not abandon any of the hospital projects under the Agenda 111 initiative. In an interview on TV3 New Day’s The Big Issue on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Minister confirmed that contractors working on projects nearing 80% completion have been directed to return to their sites immediately.
“We are committed to completing this healthcare initiative. I have instructed that the contractors go back to work, and I believe they will mobilize and return to site within the week,” Akandoh stated.
He emphasized the government’s determination to ensure the successful completion of the hospitals. The initial phase of the project will prioritize a number of facilities, with the remaining ones to be completed in stages.
“We are going to complete the priority facilities, and then we’ll phase out the rest. None of the projects will be abandoned,” the Minister assured.
The Agenda 111 project, which was launched to expand healthcare infrastructure in underserved areas, has faced delays in recent years, raising concerns about access to quality healthcare. To expedite the completion of the hospitals, the government plans to enter into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to secure funding.
The Minister also shared that the Finance Minister has been informed of the planned partnership, noting that involving the private sector is the most feasible option for mobilizing the necessary resources.
Launched by the previous government, Agenda 111 aims to build hospitals in districts with limited healthcare facilities but has faced financial constraints. The proposed PPP is expected to speed up work and ensure the timely completion of the hospitals.
