Awutu Breku Police Station poses risk to lives

Concerns have been raised over the poor state of the Awutu Breku Police Station, with the officer in charge warning that the condition of the building poses a risk to prisoners, police personnel and members of the public.

Speaking on the issue, the station commander , Chief superintendent Edmond Nyamekye said the deteriorating structure has become a major safety concern and requires urgent attention.

According to him, the matter has been brought to the attention of the district assembly, which is responsible for the facility, and discussions have already been held on the need for intervention.

He revealed that officials from NADMO have also visited the police station and marked the structure for demolition due to its condition.

However, he noted that the demolition has not yet started, and appealed to the assembly to act quickly before the situation worsens.

The commander stressed that the condition of the building continues to put detainees, police officers and visitors at risk, and called for swift action to address the problem.

He is therefore urging the relevant authorities to speed up efforts to ensure that the station is either renovated or replaced to guarantee the safety of all who use the facility.

The situation has since become a matter of concern in the community, as residents hope authorities will intervene before any unfortunate incident occurs.

The station commander is now calling for urgent intervention to prevent the situation from escalating into a tragedy.
