You Will Be Arrested for Taking Unapproved Fares—GPRTU Warns Drivers

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Volta Region has warned drivers against charging unapproved lorry fares.

 

Anyone caught will face arrest and prosecution.

 

In an interview with Channel 247 News,Volta Regional General Secretary for GPRTU Vida Nkpentey urged drivers to refrain from imposing unapproved fares, as the union has not approved any increases.

 

She emphasized that current fares remain unchanged,and violators will be arrested.

 

The GPRTU plans to meet with the Cabinet soon on the fare dispute the outcome,whether increases or no change, will be announced publicly.

 

Nkpentey also cautioned transport owners against pressuring drivers to hike fares, stressing that additional charges are not accepted in the region.

 

Nkpentey further urged passengers to report any driver charging unapproved fares to the nearest police station, noting that such actions are illegal.

 

She advised passengers to stay calm and rely solely on official GPRTU announcements.

 

As it stands, no fare increases have been approved lorry fares remain the same.
