Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the government to immediately remove the GHS1 fuel levy introduced in 2025 in response to the rising fuel prices driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, April 4, Ahiagbah stated, “We anticipated that fuel prices would rise when the crisis began, so this increase is not a surprise.”

He further emphasized that there are clear opportunities for the government to make adjustments to ease the burden on the public. “The government knows what decisions to make. The One Cedi levy introduced in 2025 should be removed to help cushion Ghanaians,” he added.

Ahiagbah also suggested that the road fund could be suspended, as the country is facing difficult times.

Fuel prices have surged, with GOIL now selling petrol at GH¢13.30 and diesel at GH¢17.10 per litre, reflecting the continued impact of global oil price hikes and the depreciation of the cedi.

These price adjustments have been implemented by several Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), as they respond to the ongoing pressures from the global oil market and the conflict in the Middle East.
