The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, has announced plans to engage Burkina Faso authorities over their recent decision to suspend the export of fresh tomatoes, a move that is expected to disrupt tomato supply in Ghana. The ban, which took effect on March 16, 2026, has raised concerns in the Ghanaian market.
In a statement released on Friday, March 20, the Ministry said that discussions with Burkina Faso counterparts will aim to address concerns related to the ban and find a mutually beneficial solution for both nations.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to boost local tomato production under the “Feed Ghana” and “Feed the Industry” initiatives, designed to increase domestic tomato output to meet local demand.
The Ministry also called on tomato traders to remain calm, expressing hope that a positive resolution will be reached to restore trade between the two countries.
