Mahama Directs Expansion of Security Services Recruitment
President John Dramani Mahama has directed a significant expansion in recruitment into Ghana’s security services, with plans to enlist 40,000 personnel over the next four years.
The directive was issued following a meeting between the President and the leadership of various security agencies to review ongoing recruitment efforts and assess the manpower needs of the country’s security sector.
Under the new plan, recruitment into key institutions including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Prisons Service will be expanded to strengthen national security and improve operational capacity.
Government officials say the move is aimed at enhancing the country’s security architecture while also creating employment opportunities for thousands of young Ghanaians interested in serving in the uniformed services.
President Mahama also emphasized that the recruitment process must be transparent, merit-based and free from political interference, urging the various agencies to ensure fairness throughout the exercise.
The expansion is expected to gradually increase personnel strength across the security services, helping them respond more effectively to emerging security challenges while supporting government efforts to reduce youth unemployment.
