WAEC Releases 2025 BECE Provisional Results; Over 800 Candidates Sanctioned for Malpractice

‎The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to a statement signed by John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, the results have been dispatched to schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates may also access their results online via the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org.

‎This year, a total of 603,328 candidates sat for the examination, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females drawn from 20,395 schools nationwide. The exams were conducted at 2,237 centres across the country. The figure included 72 candidates with visual impairment, 239 with hearing impairment, and 161 with other special needs. However, 2,526 candidates were absent.

‎Examination Malpractices

‎WAEC disclosed that several cases of irregularities were recorded during both the conduct and marking of the exams. Based on recommendations from the 36th Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee held on August 15, 2025, the Council has imposed the following sanctions:

‎Subject results of 718 candidates cancelled

‎Entire results of 177 candidates cancelled

‎Subject results of 1,240 candidates withheld

‎Entire results of 93 candidates withheld

‎In addition, subject results of candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, while results from 87 schools remain withheld pending further investigations. WAEC noted that withheld results may either be released or cancelled once investigations conclude on September 6, 2025.

‎Affected candidates have been advised to check the status of their results by visiting https://irreg.waec.org or by using the withheld/cancelled results button on WAEC’s homepage. Heads of schools and proprietors can also access details with their login credentials.

‎Warning Against Fraudsters

‎WAEC cautioned candidates and the public against dealing with fraudsters who claim they can alter results for a fee, stressing that its results database is secure and verifiable.

‎The Council also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners, for their invaluable support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exams and release of results.
