Increasing rate of “Hookup” in Ghana must be tackled to halt the rapid spread of HIV/AIDs and STIs – CEO, Abronoma Foundation
The Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET) has cited the rampant increase in “hookup” or transactional sex as a major factor for the increase in HIV/AIDS cases in Ghana.
Responding to this, Mrs Linda Nyarko Yeboah, the Chief Executive Officer of Abronoma Foundation, a non-profit making organization that aims at promoting women and the well-being of the Girlchild has expressed grief over the rapid increase in “hookup” which she described as a rebranded version of prostitution which shouldn’t be entertained because it has series of negative health implications leading to the rampant spread of HIV/AIDS and STIs among others.
Sharing the reasons that contribute to most of the Hookup or transactional sex among the ladies, she cited love for worldly and expensive things, economic hardship peer/social media influence and poor parental control.
She therefore called on parents to counsel their children and draw closer to them to ensure they are well nurtured to reduce the rate of influence from their peers and others that affect the mindset of the children.
She advised Ladies not to depend on men for survival and consider all gritters as gold but must work hard to achieve their aims in life
