Residents of Accra and concerned citizens are gearing up for a significant event aimed at addressing the ongoing power crisis, commonly known as “Dumsor.” On June 8th, 2024, from 2 PM to 10 PM, a vigil will be held in front of the University of Ghana to demand a sustainable solution to the erratic power supply that has plagued the country for years.

A Collective Call to Action

The vigil, branded under the hashtag # DumsorMustStopNo , represents a collective call to action from Ghanaians across different sectors. This gathering is not just a protest but a solemn appeal to the government and relevant authorities to find and implement long-term solutions to the power crisis.

Voices from All Walks of Life

Expected to draw a diverse crowd, the vigil will feature speeches, testimonies, and performances by affected individuals, activists, and influential figures. Participants will share their experiences and the adverse impacts of Dumsor on businesses, education, healthcare, and daily life. This narrative aims to underscore the urgency of the issue and the necessity for immediate action.

Why the University of Ghana?

The choice of the University of Ghana as the venue is symbolic. As a premier institution of learning, it represents the future of the nation. The power outages have severely disrupted educational activities, hampering students’ ability to study and perform research. By gathering at this site, participants hope to emphasize that the power crisis is not just an inconvenience but a significant barrier to national development.
