On January 5th, 2023, a police intelligence operation in Lolonya, near Sege in the Greater Accra region of Ghana, resulted in the arrest of four individuals for alleged unlawful possession of over 104 bags of suspected narcotics.
The suspects, Ntow Prince, Felix Owusu, Jery Quartey, and Daitey Mashack, were caught unloading sacks of the compressed plant material into a boat at the seaside in Sege.
During the arrest, Mashack, who is an Assemblyman in the area, attempted to bribe the arresting officers with GH₵ 20,000. The truck containing the substances was seized by the police and impounded at the Regional Police Headquarters, along with the bribe money.
The suspects were brought before the Ashaiman Circuit Court on January 6th, where they were remanded into police custody and are scheduled to appear again on January 23rd. The police department praised the officers involved in the operation for their “dedication and commitment” to serving the country.
