2025 CHAN Qualifiers: Nigeria CHAN Eagles Pause Training Ahead of Ghana Showdown
Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles have temporarily suspended their training sessions as the interim coach finalizes the squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
The much-anticipated Jollof Derby, a two-legged affair, is scheduled over the Christmas period, with the winner securing a spot at the CHAN tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
After failing to qualify for the last two editions, including a 2022 playoff elimination by Ghana, Nigeria is determined to make a strong comeback to the competition.
Although the players have been in training during the week, all sessions are now on hold until the final squad is announced. No further activities will take place until the team regroups.
Victor Collins, one of the players preparing for the December clashes, confirmed the pause in training during an interview with Brila.net.
“The list hasn’t been announced yet. We’re all waiting for it. I’m currently in Nasarawa, and the next time we gather will be after the final squad is out,” Collins shared.
The first leg is set to take place in Ghana between December 20 and 22, with the return leg a week later in Nigeria. Both teams are expected to bring their best as they vie for a spot in the prestigious tournament.
