Parliament Ghana has become aware of a report in the Ghanaian Times claiming that Parliament has passed a Constitutional Instrument (CI) to adopt the Ghana Card as the only registration document. We want to clarify that Parliament has not passed any such instrument. Furthermore, it is important to note that Parliament does not have the authority to pass Constitutional Instruments. They become effective only after twenty-one (21) days of the Instrument being presented in the House.
On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Parliament held pre-presentation discussions on the CI. The purpose of these discussions was to gather input from relevant sources for the drafting of the Constitutional Instrument (CI).
Parliament would like to urge all media personnel to ensure that their reportage is accurate and to contact the relevant authorities and officers if there are any questions or for further clarification on issues concerning or emanating from the House.
Signed,
