THE TWO DIMENSIONS OF BECOMING LIKE CHRIST.

As I grow older, I find that I resemble my father more and more. This has given me a deeper understanding of why the Bible says, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2nd Cor. 3:18)

Becoming like Christ Jesus has two dimensions:

1. The DNA Dimension

When you are born into the family of God, you are already like Christ. You carry the seed or DNA of God within you. The Bible says, “as he is, so are we in this world.” (1st John 4:17b). You don’t have to do anything to be like Christ; all that matters is that the Holy Spirit gives birth to you. This is the biological dimension of the Christian life, and it brings salvation and potential power to the Christian.

2. The Growth Dimension

Even though you have the DNA of God and are, by divine nature, a member of the family of God, you still need to grow in order to become more and more like Him in words and actions. This dimension brings capacity and character to the Christian. Unfortunately, many Christians fail to attain this dimension, and some use it as a measure of salvation instead of maturity.

The Christian life starts with salvation and power (John 1:12), but it progresses towards building capacity and character in order to execute the purpose of God for your life, in relation to the Kingdom mandate. If you fail to grow and mature in Christ, you cannot attain the full measure of being like Him. You will only be like Him biologically, but not physiologically.

God’s intention for your salvation is to be spiritually healthy and properly represent Him as an heir and an ambassador of His kingdom. So how do you do that? The opening scripture says, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2nd Cor. 3:18)

Jesus Christ is the glory of God, and the more Christ-conscious you become, and the more you desire to live for His glory alone, the more you will become like Him in words, deeds, and power. It’s all about Jesus!
