A significant step towards economic transformation was taken today at Buduburam, where a sod-cutting ceremony was held for the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market.
The event, which took place near St. Gregory Hospital, brought together government officials, community leaders, traders, and residents, all united in anticipation of the development project.
The 24-hour economy market forms part of a broader national initiative aimed at boosting economic activity by enabling continuous trading both day and night. The project is expected to provide improved infrastructure for traders, enhance security, and create employment opportunities for the youth in the area.

Speaking at the ceremony, Naana Margaret Ackom, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, praised the current government, saying it is “leading the nation in a good direction by working with active and committed leaders.” Officials highlighted the importance of the market in transforming Buduburam into a vibrant commercial hub.
Naana Margaret Ackom also detailed some of the facilities that will be included in the market. She said it will feature a police post, a fire post, shelves, lockable stores, a day care center, restaurants, and a supermarket, all aimed at ensuring a safe, convenient, and modern trading environment for traders and visitors.

Another speaker at the event revealed that the contractor handling the project has assured them that construction will be completed in 20 months, instead of the originally planned 36 months, giving the community hope for a quicker delivery of the market.
The chiefs also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to the government for initiating the project. They conveyed their hope that the promises made will be fulfilled, emphasizing the positive impact the market will have on the community.
Residents and traders expressed optimism about the project, noting that it will help reduce congestion in existing markets while increasing income opportunities for small businesses.
The sod-cutting ceremony marks the beginning of what many believe will be a major boost to local economic growth, aligning with efforts to strengthen Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda. Construction is expected to begin soon, with stakeholders hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule to serve the growing population in and around Buduburam.
