Rising Fuel Prices Will Not Automatically Lead to Transport Fare Increase – Ghana Private Road Transport Union

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has indicated that the recent increase in fuel prices will not automatically result in an immediate increment in transport fares across the country.

According to the union, no official decision has been taken to adjust transport fares despite the rising cost of petroleum products. The leadership of the GPRTU says discussions are ongoing to assess the impact of the fuel price changes on transport operators before any final decision is made.

The union also cautioned drivers against increasing fares on their own without approval, stressing that any adjustment must follow consultations with relevant stakeholders.

However, the GPRTU noted that transport fares could be reviewed in the future if fuel prices continue to rise significantly and begin to severely affect the operational costs of drivers.

For now, commuters are expected to continue paying the current fares until an official announcement is made by the union.
