Police Intercept Narcotic Drugs, Arrest Suspects in Upper West Region

Wa, April 7, 2026-The Upper West Regional Police Command has ramped up operations against drug trafficking, arresting multiple suspects and seizing large quantities of suspected Indian hemp across several districts.

Over the past four weeks, police recorded seizures in Eremon (Lawra District), Nadowli Barrier and Loho (Nadowli Kaleo District), Charke and Siriyiri (Wa Municipality), Hamile (Lambussie District), and Funsi (Wa East District). The hauls included 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and 8 assorted consignments of the suspected narcotic.

Key incidents include:

– April 1, 2026: At Wa-Loho barrier, officers retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus heading from Wa to Jirapa. Suspects Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee were arrested.

– April 3, 2026: A patrol team in Eremon, Lawra District, stopped a Toyota Corolla and found 140 compressed slabs. Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame were apprehended.

Police noted most consignments were heading north toward Hamile for delivery.

The suspects are in various stages of investigation and prosecution, with involved vehicles impounded. Authorities warned transport owners and unions against allowing vehicles to carry illicit drugs, risking forfeiture and prosecution.

Regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Yiribaare assured the public of continued efforts to combat drug crimes for a safer environment. He urged residents to share information with police.
