Police arrest teacher over viral student assault video

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in connection with the assault of a female student captured in a viral video circulating on social media.

 

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was arrested by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District Police on June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. following reports of an assault involving an 18-year-old female student, Patience Chibu.

 

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who also serves as a caretaker at the school’s hostel, confronted the student and some male students over alleged misconduct within the hostel facility.

 

Police said a misunderstanding reportedly broke out during the confrontation, leading to the assault of the female student. The incident was captured on video and later circulated online, attracting widespread public attention and condemnation.

 

The development reportedly angered some students, who allegedly pelted stones at the suspect. Police further disclosed that some youth from the Nyinahin community were invited to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him following the incident.

 

However, the situation was brought under control through the swift intervention of a police patrol team, preventing further disturbances and possible acts of retaliation.

 

Authorities have since issued a Police Medical Report Form to the victim to facilitate medical examination and treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the matter.

 

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to remain calm and resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means while investigations continue.
