The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Atta Issa, has affirmed that Ghana’s Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) arrangement with the International Monetary Fund does not limit the government’s ability to create jobs.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Atta Issa emphasized that the government is actively implementing multiple programmes to expand employment opportunities and improve livelihoods, even while maintaining fiscal discipline under the PCI framework.

“Does the PCI restrict the government’s ability to create jobs for our people? The answer is no. The government is pursuing numerous programmes aimed at creating decent-paying jobs,” he stated.

He highlighted initiatives such as the Adwumawura programme, which provides start-up capital ranging from GHS20,000 to GHS150,000–GHS200,000 to support business creation and economic empowerment.

“These economic empowerment programmes are designed to alleviate poverty, promote economic well-being, and expand the country’s productivity capacity,” he explained.

The MP also pointed to other interventions, including the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan, various National Youth Authority programmes, and ongoing public sector recruitment exercises, all of which are contributing to efforts to reduce unemployment.

Citing recent labour market data, Atta Issa noted that unemployment has fallen from 13.6% in December 2024 to approximately 12.3% today.

“This shows progress, although not yet at the pace we desire,” he said, adding that sustained and coordinated efforts are essential to accelerate job creation and improve economic outcomes for young people nationwide.
