Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his views on the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana, stating that criminalizing their activities is not the solution. However, Agyapong, who describes himself as a conservative and believes in the teachings of the bible, is against the practice.
In an interview on Good Evening Ghana, Agyapong emphasized that although he respects people’s rights, he does not advocate for such behavior. He believes that society should not criminalize nor advocate for it, and it should not be promoted.
While acknowledging that everyone is entitled to their opinion, Agyapong stated that he cannot support homosexuality because of his conservative beliefs. He stressed that he is not in favor of annihilating the LGBTQ+ community, but he is against promoting the practice.
Agyapong called on leaders in Ghana to set the right examples for the youth, and advised that the country should focus on addressing major social issues, such as drug abuse, instead of prioritizing the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill. The proposed law, titled “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill,” seeks to criminalize homosexuality and related activities in Ghana.
