The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has successfully reclaimed 799 acres of land previously destroyed by illegal mining (galamsey). Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw Kotei, Administrator of the Multilateral Development Fund (MDF), revealed this achievement as part of the party’s ongoing efforts to restore lands affected by galamsey activities.
The reclaimed land will be used for sustainable agriculture and ecological restoration, benefiting local communities and promoting environmental recovery. Dr. Bissiw Kotei emphasized the importance of these efforts in reversing the destructive effects of galamsey, while highlighting the NDC’s commitment to environmental restoration.
Despite mixed reactions, the reclamation marks a significant step forward in combating illegal mining and restoring Ghana’s natural resources.
