The opposition National Democratic Congress have set eyes on Madam Irene Naa Torshie Addo, the administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for possible investigation in 2025 if they win.
Credible sources within the opposition party told this portal the lawyer and former MP’s tenure at the Fund will be subjected to “rigorous forensic investigation as soon as we come to power”.
Some whistleblowers have reportedly hinted the opposition about some goings-on at the Common Fund which they say deserved to be investigated and if anyone is found culpable, dealt with according to the law.
No specific wrongdoings have been alleged against the Naa Torshie except that the opposition believes an investigation may uncover a lot worth prosecuting her for.
The District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) is a pool of resources created under Article 252 of the 1992 constitution of Ghana. Naa Torshie was named by Akufo-Addo to administer the fund early 2017 before her vetting and approval by parliament.
The NDC is said to have placed the DACF as a top-most priority for looking into in 2025. Some of the whistleblowing is said to have emerged from friction between the then Sector for Local Government and Rural Development and the DACF boss regarding the legality of fund disbursement methods adopted and checks and monitoring mechanisms.
The Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund who is the sole Manager of the Fund in this case directly initiates and executes projects and makes payments from source under circumstances that is yet to be clarified.
