Mother remanded over alleged cutlass attack on daughter at Assin Fosu

A 28-year-old trader from Assin Fosu in the Central Region has been remanded by the Assin Fosu District Court for allegedly inflicting cutlass wounds on her 10-year-old daughter in July.

The accused, Monica Ampomah, is facing a charge of causing harm after allegedly attacking her daughter on July 21, 2026.

According to prosecutors, the mother had suspected that the child was being sexually abused after noticing a whitish discharge on the girl’s underwear.

The court heard that the accused allegedly questioned the child about the issue and later assaulted her with a cane, a metal rod and a cutlass, resulting in injuries to her head, hand and finger.

The matter was reported after the injured child sought help from her school proprietress, who assisted in getting her medical attention and reporting the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

The court has since ordered the accused to undergo a mental health examination and remanded her to reappear on September 3, 2026.
