BKB’s Report……
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East Municipality, Seth Banini, has assured residents that the assembly will take proactive steps to address sanitation challenges in the municipality.
The assurance was given during a community clean-up exercise organized to mark National Sanitation Day in Kasoa. The exercise saw the MCE, assembly members, sanitation officers, and residents actively participating in cleaning gutters and roads along the Kasoa Highway, particularly from Krispo City through Opeikuma.
With support from the Municipal Environmental Department, the exercise focused on clearing choked gutters and removing waste along major roads to improve environmental conditions. Residents and volunteer groups in the Krispo City–Opeikuma Electoral Area also joined the effort, contributing to what organizers described as a successful sanitation campaign.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Banini expressed concern over what he described as negative attitudes by some residents, particularly commercial drivers, which continue to worsen sanitation conditions in the area. According to him, some drivers deliberately dispose of refuse from their vehicles onto roadsides and into gutters after their daily work.
He noted that such practices significantly contribute to the sanitation challenges facing the municipality.
The MCE explained that the clean-up exercise formed part of broader efforts by the assembly, working together with road engineers and sanitation officers, not only to clear waste but also to introduce measures aimed at maintaining cleanliness and improving public health.
Mr. Banini therefore urged residents to adopt responsible waste disposal habits and comply with sanitation regulations to help keep their communities clean and safe.
He also cautioned that individuals found violating sanitation laws would be dealt with according to the law.
Stakeholders who participated in the exercise, including Municipal Environmental Health Officers, Assembly and Unit Committee members from the Krispo City–Opeikuma Electoral Area, as well as volunteer groups, called for stronger collaboration among residents and authorities to address sanitation challenges in Kasoa.
They also emphasized the need for strict enforcement of sanitation regulations to deter offenders.
