Kudus Scores First Goal of the Season as West Ham Come from Behind to Defeat Ipswich Town
Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus registered his first goal of the season as West Ham United staged an impressive comeback to secure a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at the London Stadium.
The energetic midfielder found the net just before halftime, scoring the Hammers’ second goal of the evening and restoring their lead after a lively first half. West Ham had taken an early advantage in the opening minute through Michail Antonio, who capitalized on a well-timed pass from Jarrod Bowen to put the hosts in front.
However, Ipswich responded swiftly, equalizing five minutes later courtesy of Liam Delap’s strike. The goal rattled West Ham, but they regrouped, with Kudus making his presence felt in the 38th minute. He almost scored after connecting with a cross from Leif Davis, only for his header to rattle the post.
Undeterred, Kudus continued to push, and his efforts paid off in the 44th minute. After Antonio’s initial shot was parried, the 23-year-old was quickest to react, heading home the rebound to put West Ham back in control.
West Ham entered the break with a 2-1 advantage, and they extended their lead soon after the restart. Bowen, who had been a constant threat down the flanks, made it 3-1 in the 49th minute, leaving Ipswich with an uphill task.
Julen Lopetegui’s men then put the game to bed in the 69th minute when Lucas Paqueta added the fourth goal, capping off a strong team performance. The victory marks West Ham’s second win of the 2024/25 campaign, moving them up to 12th position in the league standings.
For Kudus, the goal was a significant milestone, as it ended his scoring drought in all competitions this season. His contribution also brings his total goal involvements for the club to 22 since his arrival. The Ghanaian star will be eager to build on this momentum as he heads into the international break, looking to make an even greater impact upon his return.
