The Korle-Bu Doctors’ Association (KODA) has accused the management of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital of presenting a misleading image of the Accident and Emergency Centre during a recent visit by the Health Minister. According to KODA, the conditions during the visit were staged to create a false impression, which did not reflect the reality that patients typically face at the facility.

On Saturday, March 21, the Health Minister, along with Korle-Bu management, visited the emergency department following the circulation of a viral video showing patients being treated in chairs and on the floor. However, KODA claims that the minister left the visit believing the video was inaccurate, as the environment during his tour appeared to be near-normal.

KODA, in a statement, argued that this “perfect” setup was deliberately arranged. “It is common practice to prepare for such visits by government officials. New bedsheets are placed on all beds, even those that were previously without, and everything is rearranged to look ideal,” the association stated.

KODA emphasized the importance of acknowledging the real situation on the ground in order to find genuine solutions to the ongoing challenges. The association also criticized both the Ministry of Health and Korle-Bu management for deflecting blame, calling on them to take responsibility for the state of healthcare in the country.

“The Ministry of Health and Korle-Bu management must stop shifting blame and accept that they are responsible for the current state of healthcare,” KODA concluded.
