Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams captained Athletic Bilbao in their opening La Liga match of the season, which concluded with a 1-1 draw against Getafe. Williams played the full 90 minutes, demonstrating leadership and composure throughout the match.

As the vice-captain for this season, Williams saw his team take the lead just before the half-hour mark when Oihan Sancet scored to give Bilbao an early advantage. However, Getafe’s Chrisantus Uche, who had missed a crucial opportunity in the first half, equalized in the second half.

Athletic Bilbao made several attempts to regain the lead, including a close effort from Inaki’s younger brother, Nico Williams. Nico, who came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute for Alex Berenguer, had a chance to secure a late victory but was thwarted by a remarkable save from Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria.

With ongoing transfer speculation surrounding Nico, including interest from top clubs like Barcelona, he remains focused and optimistic about the season ahead. Athletic Bilbao will next face Barcelona on August 24th, and both Williams brothers will be keen to make an impact.
