Health Officer In Court For Allegedly Defiling Two Teenagers

A 40-year-old public health promoter identified as Richard Azaglo who is a staff of Nkwanta South municipal hospital is standing trial for allegedly defiling two teenagers in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

According to the police, the accused person drugged the victims aged 14 and 15, to have sexual intercourse with the two after they were induced into a state of unconsciousness.

The victims’ attitude in school raised suspicion and upon interrogation by the school authorities, the ordeal was revealed and the Nkwanta South social welfare alerted. Subsequently, the matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.

Police prosecutor Detective Inspector Bright Nkansah told the Jasikan circuit court that the police retrieved exhibits that are yet to be forwarded to FDA for analytical examination and report.

The presiding judge at Jasikan circuit court His Honour Alfred Kwabena Asiedu advised prosecutor Detective Inspector Bright Nkansah to speed up the investigation.

The accused was, however, granted bail of GHS 10,000 with one surety and is to re-appear on 13th April 2023.

An Accra Circuit Court also sentenced a 27-year-old footballer, identified as Richard Mensah to 12 years imprisonment for having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl on three occasions at Mamprobi in Accra.

The court found Richard Mensah guilty of defilement.
