HALF-A-MILLION GHANAIANS LIVING WITH HIV: HEALTH EXPERT BLAMES IT ON DOUBLE DATING, MULTIPLE PARTNERSHIPS

Recent statistics from the Ghana AIDS Commission reveal that approximately 500,000 people in Ghana are living with HIV as of July 2025.
According to the Commission, the national HIV prevalence rate is about 1.7%, with notable regional disparities. The Eastern Region has the highest rates, while the northern parts of the country report the lowest.
Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashie, a Health Expert and CEO of Amagheshie Herbal Centre, attributes the trend to “bad sexual behavior” among Ghanaians.
He specifically notes that having multiple partners and “side-chicks” is a major contributing factor to the increase in HIV cases.
Dr. Apostle Samuel Amagashie in furtherance is advocating for the inclusion of herbal healthcare into Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr. Amagashie believes that integrating herbal medicine into the NHIS would help alleviate the financial burden on Ghanaians who prefer accessing herbal medication for their healthcare needs.
He stated that prioritizing herbal medicine and enrolling it in the NHIS could help boost healthcare in the country. By including herbal healthcare in the NHIS, more Ghanaians who prefer herbal treatments could benefit from insurance coverage.
